  • Cup of Coffee

I found this on someone's Tumblr. I think this is relevant to everyone.

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
and had some items in front of him.
    When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
    They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else —The small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ He continued,
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
    The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

    So…

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
    Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

‘Take care of the golf balls first —
    The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

    The professor smiled
    ‘I’m glad you asked’.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
There’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’

  • Time to flow

In the darkest hours before dawn, there are but few souls who find delight,

among the quiet streets of the city, walking under the twinkling star light.

Without thoughts of the past nor future, living in the ever present plight,

of surviving in the wake of masses, forgetting all but those who fight.

For the peace of the nation, for the peace of our minds.

For the sacrifice of the poor, for the endurance of the might.

So that tomorrow the sun will shine, once more on the road of life.

  • Your favorite toy.

Remember when you were a kid and you had your favorite toy? Maybe it was a robot toy or a stuffed animal, or even a toy soldier. The fact is as time passes by, we quit playing with this favorite toy at some point. You got bored with the toy so you got a new toy to replace it. You can't blame the toy for how it's made. As you keep playing with new toys to keep you entertained, you've forgotten all about your favorite toy. It's probably in the closet because you got bored of it quickly. Is it the toy's fault that it's boring, non-changing, and replaceable? Or is it because you are just so hard to entertain and please? Always wanting the latest toy to keep up with you. Boys want new toys because there is something missing or they're just greedy.

The biggest question is "Why is he bored?". Yeah, most of us get bored easily. We often do the same things everyday, go to school, browse the web, text the same people, eat the same lunch, and then go to bed at the end of the night.

Think of it this way, "The goal of an artist is to create the definite work, which cannot be surpassed." - George Bernard Shaw on Mozart. Mozart strived to succeed by using variety to create a sound no one had ever hard of before. He took a toy, as simple as the piano and made it his. Mozart never got bored playing his piano and people never got bored of hearing him play it.

So no matter how many new toys you play with, you won't be satisfied unless you realize that you can pick up this tossed away toy and enjoy every part of it. Pick up the toy, enjoy it's uniqueness, characteristics, flaws, and etc. Nobody wants to be that tossed away toy no matter how hard you try to entertain them. Just be yourself.

  • The Butterfly Effect.

I’ve been calm recently. It’s a very tranquil state, the kind of calm that greets you when you stare out of your bedroom window at the rest of the world, they don’t know you’re watching but you are. You’re silently observing everything, taking in every sensation. There was a time in my life where I lost this serenity. I think when anxieties, fear, and darkness cloud your head, you don’t always have enough room to appreciate days like today. It’s almost like a Butterfly Effect of sorts. For every transition, every change, there’s a system. First we must cocoon, shut ourselves out from the rest of the world. Give ourselves time to change and know who we are before the world continues to do that for us. I think we all cocoon at some point in our lives. Many of us do this multiple times. Some do it frequently. I guess all I really know is that this world is a beautiful place and we’re all beautiful people. So maybe we’re all right where we belong after all.
